Our Family Office Advisory services
FOSS Family Office Advisory (FOSS) supports you with:
- Advice on the establishment of your own single-family office, wherever you are located, or
- your search for and selection of a suitable multi-family office that best supports you with your specific needs.
Single-family office vs Multi-family office
Not all families know which type of family office suits their situation best. Therefore, most families first need to analyse whether a single- or a multi-family office is the best solution. As we have expertise on both fronts, we are in an excellent position to inform you about the advantages and disadvantages of both solutions. Jointly we can establish the preferred and most suitable solution.
Once the preferred solution is defined, we will guide you through one of two processes:
Establishing and operating a properly functioning single-family office can be challenging, even for the most sophisticated families. Our service supports you with setting one up, incorporating global best practices, and provides you with a personalised, pragmatic and understandable step-by-step approach.
After you have contacted us, we will organise a face-to-face meeting with you - and/or your advisor - in order to gain an initial understanding of your personal situation and your family’s specific needs. We will provide you with detailed information about FOSS’s single-family office advisory process and discuss how our support and process works in practice.
2. Project execution
Once you have decided to engage our services we will guide and advise you step-by-step on how to establish your single-family office. We will act simultaneously as your advisor, project manager and sparring partner. For every step, we have developed specific modules containing briefing notes, templates and models. Themes such as family office governance, the family office leadership structure, the family office business plan and operational procedures are all addressed. Our support only stops when your family office is fully operational.

The selection of your wealth advisor is an extremely serious issue. Do you know which questions to ask when visiting a multi-family office for the first time? And does this particular provider deliver an integrated service or does it only purport to? With our 4-stage process, we help you search and select a suitable, high-quality multi-family office.
After you have contacted us, we will organise a face-to-face meeting with you (and/or your advisor) in order to analyse and map your and your family’s specific needs, based on our unique evaluation process.
Using a sophisticated selection and mapping process we have, over the past years, built a database containing the key features of over 450 different multi-family offices in Switzerland. Based on your unique family requirements we draw up a shortlist (of 3 or 4) of the most suitable high-quality multi-family offices offering the exact services you require.

Subsequently, meetings with the selected multi-family offices are organised by us and together with you (your advisor) and/or the family or its representatives, we will visit each one. During these visits, we will focus on selecting the multi-family office with the philosophy, services and accompanying cost structure that best fit you and your family's needs.
Afterwards, we jointly analyse the meetings, and ultimately you select the most fitting family office for you and your family.
FOSS is a part of Union Bancaire Privée, UBP SA (UBP). We provide our services globally out of Hong Kong, Singapore and Zürich, Switzerland. FOSS’s services are provided fully independently from any family office or independent asset manager. FOSS is not itself a family office and neither FOSS nor UBP offer in-house family office services.
Our years of experience enable us to also:
- Assist in finding an independent asset allocator or a provider of consolidated reporting services;
- Support families in finding another Trustee for their Trust, following a similar process;
- Assist families with regard to the suitability of jurisdictions to relocate to.
You will find additional information about our services, and how we are compensated, in our frequently asked questions section or presentation of services offered. Background information about our team can be found on the about us page.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about our services. We look forward to assisting you in finding the right family office solution that matches your needs exactly.
